Preparation Method

  • Heat a pan with four tablespoons Idhayam Sesame Oil and fry the vathal and keep aside.
  • Soak the tamarind and extract the juice.
  • Chop ten shallots.
  • Grind cumin seed , pepper rest of the shallots, red chilli and grated coconut.
  • Add the ground masala, turmeric powder, salt and chilli powder to the tamarind extract.
  • Heat a pan with a tablespoon of Idhayam Sesame Oil.
  • Add mustard, when it splutters add onion, garlic and fry.
  • Add the tamarind mixture, ground masala and allow it to boil.
  • Add the fried vathal. When the gravy thickens remove from fire.
  • You can use either one of these vathal or everything together.
  • Sundakkai vathal, Kothavarangai vathal, Kathiri vathal.
  • vathal contains salt, so check and adjust salt to taste.
