Preparation Method

  • Discard the stem and chop the sundaikkai into two.
  • Chop the shallots and tomatoes finely.
  • Slit the green chillies.
  • Pressure cook the toor dhal with turmeric powder.
  • Extract the tamarind.
  • Heat a pan with two tablespoons of Idhayam Sesame Oil.
  • Saute shallots, green chillies, tomato and fry well.
  • Add the sundaikkai and fry.
  • To this add the toor dhal and allow it to boil.
  • Add the sambar powder and salt.
  • When the sundaikkai is done pour the tamarind extract and allow it to boil.
  • Heat another pan with rest of the Idhayam Sesame Oil.
  • Temper mustard, urad dhal, asafoetida and toor dhal mixture.
  • Stir well.
  • Remove from fire and serve.
