Preparation Method

  • Pressure cook dhal with turmeric powder till soft and mushy.
  • Soak tamarind and extract the juice.
  • Peel the shallots and keep aside.
  • Slit green chillies.
  • Heat a pan with Idhayam Sesame Oil.
  • Temper mustard, fenugreek, asafoetida, curry leaves and shallots.
  • When the shallots are done add green chillies and fry.
  • Pour the tamarind extract, sambar powder, salt and allow it to boil until raw smell goes.
  • Add the cooked dhal and allow it to boil for five minutes.
  • If the sambar is too thick add hot water.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with Idli or Dosa.
