SMOKED FISH BALTI

Serves :
4

Preparation Time :
30 minutes

Cooking Time :
20 minutes

Preparation Method :

  • Cut the fish into cubes. Cover with the milk and leave to soak for an hour.
  • Heat the oil in a Balti pan, wok or large frying pan over a medium heat.
  • Add the cumin seeds and fry for 30 seconds before adding the onion and garlic. Cook for about 10 minutes until golden brown.
  • Mix the garam masala with the remaining ghee (melted) or oil and enough water to form a thickish paste.
  • Stir the paste and the yoghurt into the pan. Once mixed and sizzling, add the fish and milk.
  • Cook briskly for 5 minutes, then reduce the heat and simmer gently for 10 minutes or until the fish is cooked. It should flake apart when gently pressed.
  • Stir in the coriander, heat through and serve.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 kilograms smoked haddock or cod
  • 200 ml milk
  • 50 ml sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 4 large onions, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2 tablespoon Balti garam masala
  • 200 ml natural Greek yoghurt
  • 2 tablespoon fresh coriander, chopped
